Closed cloister

Sometimes I long to retire to a monastery. Not to worship God (what do I know about Gods?) but to exist in absolute silence. To ponder. To reminisce. To dive deep inside.

Sometimes I wish there were convents dedicated to the misery and glory of Man.

But aren’t they all?

You don't have to believe in a God in order to take monastic vows.

A friend told me: "I do not understand what this post is about".

Well, I visited a monastery, walked along its cool porticos and stoas and felt the need for seclusion. Having no religious feelings, I asked myself what would be the meaning of living in a cloister, without praying. But then I realized that convents are human creations. In so far closer to Man than to God.

@Doodler
The monks are inside the monasteries for their own reasons and agendas.
It is their way to solve and face their problems and realities or fears they face.
Have a nice day, everyone.

Peace can be found anywhere, not just in monasteries...

Can a metropolis with 34 million people be called a "monastery"? Well, not really, but it could act as one. A place "to exist in absolute silence. To ponder. To reminisce. To dive deep inside." Things that were inpossible back home.

My dream as a child was to be a lighthouse keeper, at one of these tall ones at the end of a remote cape, and play chess with a chess computer, looking and hearing the sea outside. This picture makes me relax till today.

you go in a convent to 'meet God' but also Yourself

monks call their rooms 'cells' (like prison cells), i never like that notion but i can understand how it works

we know of writers and artists creating their *best* work in prison (in seclusion that is), with many greek examples - in music mainly:]

I have also thought of being a monk in monastery… Under one condition: The monastery should be like that, which is described by Em. Roidis in “Pope Joanna” or, at least, like that, which is referred in “Justine”… :-)

Peoples who live in monasteries dream of the agora. People who live in the agora dream of monasteries
