It all began HERE! (Rome 3)
Rome. Piazza di Spagna. The college (of cardinals) for the dissemination of faith, founded by the Vatican in 1622. "De propaganda fide". Propaganda, from the verb propagare, became a noun. And what a noun!
Everything started here. Propaganda, advertising, marketing, public relations, spin doctors, Goebbels, Mao, brain washing... everything...

Maybe it is propaganda from propagare from phonetic latinisation of the anc. greek pro+ago = proago...
Many things begun in anc. greece, but not ...us...
Great photos!!!
Loved the pine trees, and the vespas!
How was the pasta?
dear Rallou
pasta, pizza and gelati are always great. Even in the shabbiest shops they are better then anywhere else on the world....
Bonjour notre amie...
Not only the sabbiest stores, but even the autostrada service stations, are surprisingly exquisite!...
Pizza, pasta and (of course) fine itallien wine... Dazzled by the beautiful buildings under the Romanian sheltering sky...
Eternity...
@nikiplos it is "Roman sky" (cielo Romano, in Italian), "Romanian" refers to Romania in the Balkans.
Beautiful pictures, try also getting some in Piazza di Spagna.
“It all began here”. Propaganda started in Rome. (I agree with Harry that the word propagare comes from the Greek verb “proago”)
Also Ghettos started near by… In Venice!
Venetian Ghetto
…Continuing…
The “piazza” I most prefer in Rome, is Campo dei Fiori with the statue of Giordano Brunno in the position where he was burnt, and behind this square, the genuine Italian (not expensive and not for tourists) ristorante in “Via de la Grotte” near French Embassy.
I also like walking from Piazza Campo dei Fiori to Piazza Santa Maria Trastevere.
In Campo dei Fiori there is also the famous judeo-romano ristorante Piperno. It's not cheap and it's in every tourist guide, but the food is unbelievable!
It is not and cannot be accidental!
Of course it is not accidental. From the most ancient times the church was an organization that manipulated people so they would be obedient and submissive to authority. Especially the Catholic Church was very strong in that point - and after seeing that the Holy Inquisition was not very efficient after the Renaissance (times had changed) they resorted to propaganda...
I disagree with the...propaganda against "the Inquisition " & in favor of the " Renaissance ".
At least the christian churches did not allow human sacrifices or sanctioned whorehouses...
History is linear,not cyclical...
harry you forget how many "witches" and "heretics" were burned at the stake, how many "heathen natives" were killed in the name of Christ...
Are these not human sacrifices?
The only faith that never resorted to violence and murder is Buddhism.
Human sacrifices r the cornerstone of internal barbarism within a ( usually paganistic ) religion...
Killing the " unfaithful" or the " sinners " is standard practice of all - but one, as u mention - religions...
Christianism is much defamed by classical ( Grecoroman ) fascists ,who usually r virulent antisemites as well...
To stick with the post, any propaganda has 2 elements,
the technical ( succesful or not ) &
the qualitative one
( morally/ideologically correct or not )...
A correct or truthful propaganda is not propaganda at all...
You cannot call propaganda the dissemination of a scientific theory!
Any action of pro+(p)ago is literally ...propaganda.
The term should be neutral, not negative.
Politics is the king of prop. & advertising is the kingmaker...
Is Greek language permitted in this blog or it is only for greeks who want to improve their English?
This is an English-speaking blog for bloggers from everywhere.
Not only Church and religion.
Just look how efficiently even naïve hoaxes spread through the internet.
Our brain seems to have been set by default to believe in stories. Disbelieve alone is not enough. If that was the case, then people wouldn’t discard obvious facts in order to believe conspiracy theories.
How does someone become a skeptic?
Can critical thinking been taught?
Of course critical thinking can be taught.
By analyzing the structure of our beliefs and investigating their foundations.
Science enacts critical thinking every time it tests a theory.
The ancient skeptics used juxtaposition (αντιθετικοί λόγοι) to avoid dogmatism.
History of thought is a history of criticism.
Well, here's another Vatican staple that worked wonders on millions of happy customers. Many things still haunting us today started here as the doodler said, hats off to the Vatican then, they sure knew their stuff, one's got to give them that.
